South Carolina dominates glass, paint and South Carolina State

Reserves Elijah Strong and Grant Polk added 13 points apiece for the Gamecocks (8-4). Kobe Knox chipped in with 11 points and five assists.
Jayden Johnson led all scorers with 23 points on 10-of-15 shooting and Noah Treadwell chipped in with 17 points on five three-pointers for South Carolina State (1-13). James Morrow finished with 13 points.
A Florian Tenebay layup at the 13:27 mark of the second half cut the Bulldogs' deficit to 58-47. That was the closest South Carolina State got in the second half as a 10-2 Gamecock response inflated the lead to 19 points.
The hosts then put the game away with 6:42 remaining in the game after going on a 10-0 run to give them a 81-54 lead, their largest advantage of the contest.
Eli Ellis, who missed the game against Clemson with an ankle injury, led the way in the second half with nine points for South Carolina. The Gamecocks had 10 different players score at least one point and shot 59.2% from the floor.
South Carolina made 31 of 36 free throw attempts (86.1%), compared to just nine made free throws for South Carolina State.
In the first half, South Carolina State hung around for a while. A Tim Okojie jumper with 9:39 remaining in the first half had the Bulldogs trailing 20-19.
South Carolina, however, answered with 10 unanswered points, capped off by Stute's third 3-pointer of the half to give the Gamecocks a 30-19 advantage.
The Gamecocks ended the first half on a 7-0 run and made eight of their last 10 field goal attempts to take a 46-33 lead at the half.
South Carolina outrebounded S.C. State, 36-22 and outscored their in-state foes in the paint, 36-10.
South Carolina wraps up their nonconference schedule next Tuesday when they host Albany.
